Home / Cookie Policy
A short and complete list of what this site stores in your browser, why, and how to switch most of it off. Last reviewed 12 January 2026.
The basics
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. Related technologies — local storage and session storage — do the same job in a slightly different drawer. This policy covers all of them, and should be read alongside our privacy policy.
We use as few as we can get away with. There is no advertising network on this site, no social media pixel and no cross-site tracking. Non-essential storage is only set after you have said yes on the consent banner, in line with the ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR.
The full list
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| cookieConsent | Local storage | Essential | Records that you have answered the consent banner, so it is not shown again | 12 months |
| cookieConsentLevel | Local storage | Essential | Stores which categories you allowed — “all”, “essential” or your saved selection | 12 months |
| _cls_session | First-party cookie | Analytics | Aggregated page-view counting; no cross-site identifier, no profile | 24 hours |
| _cls_visit | First-party cookie | Analytics | Distinguishes a returning reader from a new one, in aggregate only | 14 months |
| ui_notice_state | Local storage | Functional | Remembers dismissed notices and expanded FAQ sections between visits | 6 months |
| Hosting load-balancer cookie | First-party cookie | Essential | Routes your request to a healthy server; set by our EU host | Session |
Photography and web fonts are delivered by external networks. Those requests do not set cookies for us, but the provider necessarily receives your IP address in order to send the file — see section 4 below.
Managing consent
You can withdraw or change consent at any time, and it takes about ten seconds:
Blocking non-essential storage does not degrade the site. Every guide, table, itinerary and FAQ works identically. The only consequences are that your reading is not counted in our statistics and that small conveniences — remembering a dismissed notice, for example — reset on each visit.
Some pages load photography from an image delivery network and typefaces from a font service. These providers see the IP address and user-agent of the device requesting the file, which is technically unavoidable for any remotely hosted asset. We do not embed social media widgets, comment systems, video players or maps that set third-party tracking cookies. When you follow an outbound link — to MÁV, to a bath operator or to a producer — that site's own cookie policy applies from the moment you arrive.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track header or a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of analytics and functional storage, whether or not you interact with the banner.
If we add, remove or change a cookie we will update the table above and the review date at the top of the page. Any new non-essential category will re-prompt for consent rather than relying on a previous answer.
